Kit Walker is a trusting, loyal young man whose only crime in 1964 is being married to a black woman, Alma Walker -- at least until he is accused of her brutal murder and others attributed to the serial killer Bloody Face. His only defense is bright lights and a loud, wall-shaking piercing noise that accompanies little green men, a story which earns him a trip to Briarcliff asylum.Kit is earnest and professes his innocence and his love for his late wife to anyone who will listen, which in a place like Briarcliff, isn't many people. He finds a confidant and ally in Grace, a fellow patient with a dark back story.Kit's notoriety as the accused killer Bloody Face draws the interest of intrepid reporter Lana Winters, who wants to understand and exploit his alleged crimes; the enmity of Sister Jude Martin, who preaches redemption but at times seems more interested in judgment; and the interest of Drs. Oliver Thredson and Arthur Arden, who each want to study Kit. Early on, Arden finds a kind of microchip implanted in Kit's neck that seems to support his alien story.Kit doesn't feel like he belongs in Briarcliff and appears horrified by the crimes of which he's accused. He misses his wife and knows that his story of aliens makes him sound like a loon, but he believes the truth is his best defense and repeats his story to anyone who will listen, even when it only makes him sound crazier. Background: Gas station attendant married to Alma Walker. Doesn't wear his wedding ring in public out of fear of reprisals. Follows his heart at all times, even when it leads him to unconventional arrangements. Show less «
