The movie tells the story of the coming of age of an Aboriginal Australian teenager on a road trip in the late 1960s. After being punished for an act of youthful rebellion, he runs away from the mission on a journey that ultimately leads him back home.
You have to wonder about the film's almost complete portrayal of Aborigines as dim-witted dunderers, dancing fools, thieves and drunks. Whites fare no better. Does the film explode stereotypes, or reinforce them?
