Rodrick Rules is a funny story about the subject of school. GregHeffley is often teased by bad bad friends at his school. And he imagines how to cope with these eccentric friends but his plan is never done. He just writes his 'magic plan' in his own diary.

Fan The Fire
I'm not asking for Citizen Kane here, but just a wisp of expansion to the characters, an actual narrative that the film can walk down, or just some sort of ambition to the whole project would not have gone amiss.
