The movie begins in 16th-century Seville, Spain, and tells of two-bit con men named Tulio and Miguel who believe they have found their path to fortune and glory when they win a map to El Dorado, the legendary City of Gold, only to end up as stowaways on Hernán Cortés' fleet to conquer Mexico.
