New exciting adventures come up in the final season of Vikings, the series that takes after a group of Vikings people. After the battle of Kattegat, this season starts with Bjorn tries to deal with his new role as the new king. Meanwhile Lagertha has forgotten about her shield and she now has a quiet life. Ivar struggles against a cruel ruler, Prince Oleg.
Which, again, fun. But for a show struggling to recapture the sense of sweep and character it initially promised, Ivar's new pal is leading him, and us, down a well-trod path to the same bloodied ground.
Vikings' subplot game has been hit or miss throughout its run... Still, the prospect of Ubbe on a Floki quest, while Bjorn faces his first real adversity as king could have the makings of character-defining arcs.
We can never be certain about how well a series will nail the ending, but at least with "Vikings," the fandom's faith can lean on a firmer foundation based in history and demonstrated skill as opposed to spectacle and whim
All told, a strong return for Vikings, blessedly absent of all the preposterous nonsense that made last season so unbearable. On the other hand, it was largely setup for a conflict that I think has already worn out its welcome.
